About
Dylan Prothro is a freelance trumpeter and educator originally from the Southern California area. He holds a Master of Music in Performance from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from California State University, Long Beach.
Dylan began his career teaching at Southern California high schools and freelancing in the Los Angeles area, performing with the Santa Monica and Bellflower Symphonies as well as for church services and musicals. In 2021, he relocated to the Hartford area to complete his Master's degree. At the end of his Master's, Dylan earned trumpet scholarships for both Stony Brook University and the University of Maryland for Doctoral Studies in Trumpet Performance.
After completing his Master's in 2023, Dylan began teaching and performing across the state of Connecticut. He currently operates a studio of approximately 30 students, providing private lessons for brass instruments and piano.
As a performer, he has played church services at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, the St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, and the Trinity College Chapel. He has performed as a pit musician for several musical productions, including Chicago, Hello, Dolly!, A Chorus Line, and Sister Act. He has performed for graduation ceremonies at the Yale School of Music and Trinity College. Dylan has also played with professional music organizations such as the Hartford Symphony and the Con Brio Choral Society.
